How to cook lobsters?
Cooking lobsters is fairly simple, but it’s important to make sure they’re cooked properly to ensure their safety and delicious taste. Here’s a basic guide for cooking lobsters:
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. The general rule of thumb is to use about 2 tablespoons of salt per quart of water.
- Grasp the lobster firmly, and carefully drop it into the boiling water head first. Cover the pot with a lid.
- The cooking time will depend on the size of the lobster. As a general rule, you should cook lobsters for about 10 minutes for the first pound, and an additional 3-5 minutes for each additional pound. For example, a 2-pound lobster would take about 13-15 minutes to cook.
- To check if the lobsters are done, you can carefully remove one from the pot and check the meat. The meat should be opaque and white, not translucent.
- Once the lobsters are cooked, remove them from the pot using tongs and let them cool for a few minutes before handling them.
- To eat the lobsters, use a lobster cracker or a pair of kitchen shears to crack open the shells, and remove the meat using a fork or your fingers. Dip the meat in melted butter, if desired.
Note that there are many different ways to cook lobsters, including grilling, baking, and steaming. However, boiling is the most traditional and straightforward method.
